France manages confinement for everyone but churches during Covid-19. This article explores how the American Church in Paris, the American Cathedral and Saint Michael's Church in Paris do and may use technology to augment essential purposes of religion as defined by Martin Luther in 1527 when confronted with the bubonic plague. The article is available in PDF here.
I have set up a website for us to gather around Covidtide between churches here. The intention is to have a shared place where we may compare and contrast notes and witness. I set it up with a memorial, a place for topics about how different churches around the world respond to Covid, and a place to think about the lasting implications of Covid beyond covidtide. It is intended to be an open and accepting website. Persons may sign up and get a weekly newsletter and propose topics of interest to all.
I was organizing a retreat on Saturday August 21 from 9 AM to 2 PM outdoors in the Parc de Sceaux, but now the American Chruch has taken the relay.
These are the texts of reference for my baptism at the American Church in Paris in February of 2020: Ruth 1:14-19; Luke 12:54-56; Matthew 5:21-26; Luke 12:57-59. Only Ruth 1 16b and Matt. 5:23-24 were read during the ceremony in replacement of Luke 12:56-57 which were my first choice. This particular sampling shows each of the verses in sufficient context for understanding.
Here is the proposal for ministry I made to the American Church in Paris in 2019. I was honored to have this ministry accepted. I did the workshop with some other voluteers in 2020, but not the ambitious computer lab.
I led the ACP Men's Group on May 6, 2021. Here is an outline I used for that meeting centered on 1 John 5:1-6 and John 15:9-17.
I officiated a religious ceremony of a marriage at Les Grands Voisins thanks to my training as a lay chaplain from the European Unitarian-Universalists and to the active support of the Parisian Quaker Meeting. Here is a video of the event cued to the religious ceremony.
